Four Things I Learned This Summer

Although it is still 100 degrees outside and August is the hottest month (at least in South Georgia), this summer is coming to a close.

Students are heading back to school (if they haven’t already) and college football is almost underway (Roll Tide!).

So, looking back, here are four things I learned this summer:

1. Work smarter. Optimization and systematization where buzz words at Family Life Church this summer.

How can we do what we are doing in less time?

What are we doing that isn’t making a difference?

What can we stop doing so we can focus on something else?

These questions were asked a lot and now, we are starting to see the answers play themselves out.

Ten Reasons Why #Echo10 Was Worth The 18 Hour Drive

Yes, I drove to the Echo Conference (known on Twitter and in my brain as #echo10) from Brunswick, GA. The conference was hosted in Dallas, TX which means that it was about eighteen hours (1,000 miles) each way.

But it was worth it.

It was worth waking up at 4am and driving ten hours on the second day, it was worth making the sacrifices in our budget, it was worth it.

I am going to spend several days unpacking what I learned and how it will change what I do, but I still have to process (and I will have a lot of time to think as I drive) so here is a short list of the ten reasons why it was worth it to attend.

Quotes That Made Me Think

The following are five quotes that really made me think. Like, a brain freeze from a slurpie in the winter, made me think.

They are from a variety of people that lived in a different eras and led different types of movements.

Some of them are people that I have never read or even heard of.

And I think that is important, to get outside of my “circle” because if I don’t, I am not really maximizing my learning potential.
