So, What Do I Actually Do in DC?

Great question!

I actually am used to it, so don’t worry. In fact, when I was the Communications Pastor at Family Life Church, I got this question quite often because it was a new role and because I was transitioning from the well-known role of ‘Middle School Pastor’.

I thought I would start by referring to our beautiful styled CMIT (Campus Missionary in Training) Manual:

What I Learned @ Welcome Week

We just finished our first week on campus at American University (AU) and I can honestly say, I have never carried so many refrigerators in my life! Although it has been fun helping students move in and ice blocking down hills, it has been all about the relationships we can build.

So I thought I would share with y’all what I have been learning. Oh yeah, and sorry for the lack of blog posts as of late. Can we still be friends?

Tech Tip: Recovering Deleted Photos

Although I don’t usually cover tech tips (or blog on Sundays), I thought I would go for it anyways (hey, it’s my blog, so I guess I can break the rules!)

It all started when I Skyped with my sister a few days ago and she was nearly crying because she had accidentally deleted all of her pictures and videos from her camera. And these were pictures and videos that were irreplaceable (they always are, right?).

Here is what happened:

  • She had a San Disk SD-HC card full of pictures and videos which she inserted into her Mac Book Pro
  • She created a folder on her desktop to place on the pictures and videos from the said card
  • She thought she copied all of the contents of the memory card to that new folder, so…
  • She deleted the pictures off of the card
  • Then, she then emptied her trash bin
Sounds horrible right? Yeah, it was. But alas, we found a free way to recover the pictures! I am not making any guarantees this will work for you (and legally, I am not liable for any mistakes you may or not make doing this), but this is what we did. [Note: After this, she did not write any data to the card from which she deleted her pictures]
  • We downloaded these free programs: TestDisk & PhotoRec (which work on PCs or Macs), we then followed these steps and lastly, we nervously waited for a few hours (make sure if you have a laptop, you are connected to a power source).
I hope this helps you, and oh yeah, if this is your first time on the blog, thanks for reading!

Welcome Week ’11 @ AU Chi Alpha

We are in the incredible hustle and bustle of Welcome Week ’11 at American University. With about 1,000 freshman on campus, we have such an opportunity to connect relationally and begin to invite others to join our community at Chi Alpha.

I just wanted to share a snapshot of what I have been a part of and will continue to be a part of all this month. From carrying refrigerators in the rain during move-in to racing down a hill on a block of ice to inviting guys to be a part of my Tuesday Night Small Group – I would love for you to lift us up in prayer as we set the tone for this semester and continue to build relationships on campus.
