Halloween

I think once my mom sees this title, she is going to freak out.

She hates the month of October. Every year she counts down the days until it is over. And no, I am not joking.

Wanna know why she hates it? Yeah, because of Halloween.

I remember growing up, we didn’t even go to Wal-Mart within like 36 days of the holiday because she hated everything Halloween including the black and orange candy wrappers. I don’t even think we were allowed to eat candy that was packaged that way.

YouTube Saturday #2

On Saturdays, I have decided to share a YouTube video that is must-see. Why? Because I love YouTube. This is already a “new classic” (don’t you hate when people use that term?). At the time of this posting, it has already had 10 million + views (yeah, that is a lot of zeroes).

Have you watched a great YouTube video recently? Let me know in the comments…

(I love watching YouTube videos with people and my wife hates them, so it’s just us!)

3 Things I Learned From Shawn Wood

Yesterday, I had the chance to be a part of a free coaching conference call with Shawn Wood (Experiences/Communications Pastor at Seacoast Church).

On a sidebar, did you know that I almost worked for Shawn Wood one time?

I took some notes and have been processing a lot of what he said.

The really cool thing is that all of the coaching was conversation based, in fact, it had to do with specific questions that we all submitted.

So, without any further adieu, here are the three main things I learned from the coaching call.

1. You Shouldn’t Waste Time With Brand Management

Shawn was speaking directly about a situation that someone in the coaching call had asked about.

Here is the gist of the situation: several interns posted a video on YouTube that wasn’t harmful to the church’s reputation but wasn’t an official project. They tagged the video with the church’s name and used the church’s name as well as logo.

Standardized. Optimized. Legalized.

I just installed the StandardTheme on my blog.
Someone hooked me up with a free (legit) copy, which made me smile. I like the simplicity for users and in the backend for myself. It is clean, crisp and stylish (so, yeah, it is pretty much me if I were a WordPress theme).

I have optimized my RSS feed. If you haven’t already subscribed, then now would be a great time. Just click here.

If you are already subscribed. Thank you! I do ask that you subscribe to my the optimized feed (then, you can unsubscribe to my old one). It will help me know what content you like and what stuff you hate, thus, giving me a better opportunity to serve you as a reader.

I feel like my journey to become a TentBlogger is fully underway. I blogged earlier how I am getting paid to be a contributing blogger at 8Bit.io. So, I have written (although I was tempted to steal one) a disclosure policy. I want to be legal and honorable in the eyes of the law as well as foster an environment of community here through trust.

Oh and since I am talking about my blog (blogging about my blog to be exact, which could break the universe) – I wanted to highlight IHeartBlogging.net, this month’s sponsor. The site is all about helping people that are brand new to blogging get started on the right foot and is run by my friend, James Brooks. This ad space was actually won in the first official giveaway that I did recently.
